supporting grain-farming families, the working landscape, healthy food systems and jobs through organic agronomy
The use of local grain for bread, cereals, whiskey and beer is growing in Vermont, New York, Maine, Quebec and New Hampshire.
The grain center will receive grain from farmers on the day of harvest, and after, will clean and dry the grain, store in silos, clean again, mill for bakers and make whiskey on site.
Farmers will be able to grow more grain when there is capacity for drying, cleaning, storing, and marketing the grain. The lack of these in Vermont have long kept many farmers from growing grain.
The grain center is being built at the corner of U.S. Route 7 and Vermont Route 22A in Ferrisburgh, adjoining and just north of Vergennes. On the land now is a Park & Ride and an Amtrak passenger station, with daily service to New York City and Burlington, Vermont.
